Calgary, Alberta — UX & UI design studio

Software people actually enjoy using.

We design websites, web apps and mobile apps around how people really work — then build them. Research first, interface second, code last. Based in Calgary, working with businesses across Canada.

How we work

Good design is mostly
asking better questions.

Most software fails because nobody watched a real person try to use it. We start there, and it changes everything downstream.

  1. 01

    We watch people work

Before designing anything, we sit with the people who'll use it. What they actually do is rarely what the process document says they do.

  2. 02

    We design before we build

You get a clickable prototype to try, share and argue about — while changes still cost an afternoon instead of a month.

  3. 03

    We stay after launch

Real usage always surprises you. We watch how it lands for the first month and fix what reality disagrees with.

See it happen

From grey boxes
to shipped product.

Scroll to watch the same screen move through the three stages every project goes through.

  1. 01Wireframe

Structure and hierarchy first. No colour to hide behind.

  2. 02Design

Type, colour and spacing. Now it has a personality.

  3. 03Built

Real, responsive, interactive. Running in your browser.

Services

What we do.

Take the whole thing end to end, or just the part you're stuck on.

01

UX research & strategy

Interviews, usability testing and journey mapping, so decisions come from what users actually do rather than what the loudest person in the room believes.

  • User interviews & usability testing
  • Journey & workflow mapping
  • UX audit of what you already have
  • Information architecture

02

UI & visual design

Interfaces that are clear before they're clever. Every screen and every state — including the empty, loading and error ones everyone forgets.

  • Complete interface design
  • Design systems & components
  • Clickable prototypes
  • Accessible to WCAG 2.1 AA

03

Websites & apps

Marketing sites, customer portals, internal tools and mobile apps. Designed and built by the same people, so nothing gets lost in handover.

  • Marketing websites
  • Web apps & dashboards
  • iOS & Android apps
  • A CMS your team can actually use

04

Ongoing design partner

Design and development time reserved every month. Good for teams who keep shipping and aren't ready to hire yet.

  • Monthly design & build time
  • Continuous improvements
  • Support & maintenance
  • Pause or stop any month

Deliverables

What you actually
walk away with.

Not a slide deck. Things you own, can open, and can hand to another developer tomorrow if you ever need to.

  • Research you can act on

A short, plain-English summary of what we learned from your users, with a prioritised list of what to fix first.

  • A clickable prototype

The real thing, before it's built. Click through it, send it to your team, change your mind for free.

  • Complete design files

Every screen and state, organised properly. Yours to keep, edit or take elsewhere.

  • A design system

Reusable components and rules, so the next feature looks like it belongs without you having to ask.

  • The built product

Live, tested across real devices, with source code in your repository and accounts in your name.

  • Documentation & a walkthrough

A recorded handover and written notes, so nothing important lives only in our heads.

Who we help

Good fits.

We're a small studio and we're picky about scope rather than sector. These are the situations we're genuinely useful in.

  • Trades & field services
  • Construction & engineering
  • Healthcare & clinics
  • Professional services
  • Retail & ecommerce
  • Transport & logistics
  • Energy & utilities
  • Manufacturing
  • Real estate & property
  • Finance & insurance
  • Non-profits & associations
  • Education & training
  • Hospitality & tourism
  • Agriculture
  • Fitness & wellness
  • Public sector

Industry matters less than the shape of the problem. Booking, scheduling, quoting, reporting, client access — the same handful turn up almost everywhere, and we start by learning your specific workflow regardless. An unfamiliar sector isn't a barrier.

We're a strong fit if…

  • Your team has outgrown a spreadsheet workaround
  • You have software people avoid using
  • You need one accountable team for design and build
  • You want a clear scope and a real date
  • You can give us access to a few actual users

We're probably not if…

  • You need forty developers by next month
  • The design is already finished and you just need hands
  • Decisions need four committees to sign off

If that's you, say so anyway — we'll point you toward someone better suited.

Process

How a project runs.

Four phases, an agreed scope, and something you can click at the end of every one.

  1. 01

    Discover — weeks 1–2

We talk to your team and your users, review what already exists, and agree what success looks like in numbers rather than adjectives.

Research findings · Agreed scope · Fixed quote

  2. 02

    Design — weeks 3–5

Wireframes, then full interface design, then a prototype we put in front of real users before anything gets built.

Prototype · Full UI · Test results

  3. 03

    Build — weeks 6–12

We build exactly what we designed. You see it on a live staging link every Friday, so there is no reveal day and no surprises.

Weekly builds · Staging link · Source code

  4. 04

    Refine — after launch

We launch, watch how people actually use it for thirty days, and fix the friction that only ever shows up in the wild.

    Launch · 30-day refinement · Handover

Ways to work together

Three ways in.

Every project is scoped and quoted individually after a free consult, so you get a real number for your actual problem rather than a package that nearly fits.

01

UX Audit

Start here if you already have something and it isn't landing.

  • Full review of your current product
  • Usability testing with real users
  • Prioritised list of what to fix first
  • Recorded walkthrough with our team

Questions

Things people ask.

Anything else — email hello@haddon.software and a human replies the same business day.

Yes. We run remotely on a fixed weekly rhythm and travel out for kickoff, user testing and launch. Mountain Time overlaps the full business day from Victoria to Halifax, which helps more than you'd think.

UX is whether the thing makes sense: can someone finish the task without getting stuck or giving up? UI is how it looks and feels while they do it. A beautiful interface over a confusing flow still fails, so we always do the first before the second.

All of it, from day one — design files, source code, cloud accounts and domains, in your name. Handover includes a recorded walkthrough and written notes. Plenty of clients take it in-house afterwards, and that's a success, not a loss.

Often that's the better option. We start with a UX audit to work out what's genuinely broken versus what just looks dated — sometimes the fix is three screens rather than a rebuild. We'll tell you honestly which one you're looking at, even when the smaller answer is worth less to us.

One person who can make decisions, access to a handful of your users for interviews, and roughly six hours of your team's time in the first fortnight. That's genuinely it.

A UX audit is about two weeks. A full design-and-build is usually ten to fourteen weeks depending on how much there is to build. We'll give you a real date in the quote, not a range that quietly expands.

About

A small studio
in Calgary.

Haddon Software Solutions is deliberately small. Small means you deal directly with the person designing and building your product — no account manager in between, no handover to a team you've never met, no being someone's fourth priority.

We'd rather do a few projects properly than a lot of them quickly, so we take on a limited number at a time. If we're not the right fit for what you need, we'll say so on the first call rather than three weeks into a proposal.
